About these rules
Cookmee lets home cooks share recipes, follow each other, send compliments and show their cooking in groups. These rules say what you can share and how to behave, and what we do when someone breaks them.
These rules are part of the Terms of Use. By using Cookmee you agree to them, and we can enforce them as we enforce the Terms. They apply to everything you share or do in the community: recipes, stories, steps, tips, credits, ingredient lists, profiles, notes you send, groups and group posts, compliments, reports and anything added later. They also apply to group admins, who must enforce them in their groups.
Share your own cooking
Share recipes you wrote, or cooked and changed enough to make your own. Say where an idea came from when it is not yours, in the credit. Do not copy another person's recipe text, photos or video, from a book, a website, an app or another cook, without their permission. A list of ingredients alone is often not protected, but the way someone writes their method and story is. When you are unsure, write it in your own words and credit the source.
What we expect
- Be honest about allergens. List every ingredient. Declare the allergens of anything you type yourself, as best you know. If you are not sure, say so in the recipe. Cooks with allergies rely on this.
- Cook and write with food safety in mind. Give real cooking times and temperatures where they matter, and say how to store leftovers if it matters.
- Be clear. Give amounts, steps in order, and the number of servings.
- Be kind. Compliment freely, disagree politely, and remember that food traditions differ between families and communities.
- Keep it about home cooking.
- Report problems instead of arguing about them.
What we remove
We may remove anything, and act against any account, that:
- copies someone else's work, or leaves out a credit that is owed
- gives dangerous food-safety or cooking advice, for example risky home canning, raw or undercooked food for people at higher risk, or careless handling of hot oil or pressure cookers
- hides, leaves out or misstates allergens on purpose, or tells people that a dish is free of an allergen when you cannot know that
- makes medical or health claims, such as saying a food treats, prevents or reverses an illness, replaces medicine, or is right for a medical condition, pregnancy or weight loss
- promotes eating disorders, extreme fasting or harmful diets
- is hateful, harassing, bullying, threatening, sexual or violent, or attacks people for who they are
- shows or shares a private or intimate image of someone without their consent
- sexualises or endangers a minor in any way
- shares anyone's private information, such as a home address, phone number, email, school or exact location, or a minor's name, photo or details
- impersonates a person, a brand or Cookmee
- is spam, an advert, an affiliate link, a scam, a chain message, or fake engagement such as swapping follows or compliments
- sells or offers anything, gives prices, or arranges payment, pickup, delivery or meetings
- promotes illegal activity, drugs, weapons or the sale of alcohol, or breaks the law
- contains malware or links to harmful or deceptive sites
Allergies and safety
Authors write community recipes. We check an author's first recipes for Everyone, and we review reports, but we do not check every recipe, and a check does not mean a recipe is correct or suitable for you. Allergens on a community recipe are shown as the author described them. Ingredients we cannot match to our ingredient data are marked "Not checked". Always read the labels on what you buy and check every ingredient yourself. Reports about allergen information go to the front of our queue.
Groups
Groups are a showcase of home cooking, not a market. In a group, a profile or a recipe, do not sell or offer food or anything else, do not post prices or ask for payment, and do not arrange pickup, delivery or meeting places. Do not share addresses or locations. Group rules written by an admin can add to these rules but never relax them. An admin who allows content that breaks these rules may lose the group.
Teens
People aged 13 to 17 can have an account and share by link. Sharing with Everyone and public groups are for people aged 18 and over. Never ask a teen for private information, to move to another app, or to meet. We act quickly on any report about the safety of a minor.
Reporting
Use Report on any recipe, profile, group or post. Choose the reason that fits best. The person you report is not told who reported them. You can also block anyone: follows between you end, they cannot follow you again, and we hide their recipes and alerts from you. For copyright, or to ask us to remove an intimate image shared without consent, see the "Remove an image" page and the copyright part of the Terms. In an emergency, call 911.
How we enforce these rules
We decide what breaks these rules, using our judgement and the context. Depending on how serious it is and whether it has happened before, we may:
- remove or hide the content, or keep a recipe out of Everyone, search or Discover
- warn you
- check your recipes again before others see them, lower your daily sharing limit or take away trusted status
- remove you from a group, or remove a group or its admin
- suspend your account for a time
- close your account for good
We usually start with the lighter steps, but we may go straight to closing an account. We close accounts at once, and may report to the authorities, for sexual content involving a minor, intimate images shared without consent, credible threats of violence, repeated copyright infringement, and making a new account after a ban. Apparent child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. We may keep records of what we removed, as the law requires.
Appeals
If you think we got it wrong, email support@cookmee.com with the subject "Appeal" within 30 days. Say which recipe, group or account it was and why you think we made a mistake. A person who did not make the first decision will look at it, and we will tell you the outcome. We may restore content or an account, or keep our decision. For copyright removals, use the counter-notice steps in the Terms instead.
Changes
We may change these rules at any time. The version and date at the top show the latest version. If a change is material, we tell you in the app or on our website before it takes effect. If you keep using Cookmee after the change takes effect, you accept the new rules. If you do not agree, stop using Cookmee, and you may delete your account.
